Window Screen Question
I have several old doors that I really _need_ screens on. So I need to build several screens. What type of materials are out there for building screens ? I know I could build a frame from wood and staple the screening material on, but I really don't want that..I would prefer to make a * real * one where the screening material can be put in the way commercial screens are built. Do home improvement stores carry the materials for this? How are the corners held together? Thankie! Kathie Forest Hill, Maryland
There are several manufacturers of DIY screen frame materials. Most that I've seen are a length of some sort or other of a channel shaped stock that you can cut to length with a hach saw. This operation would be sort of important to do correctly since the miter angle needs to be both accurate and straight to look nice. The corners are typically held together with a corner thingy that will be made by the same comany as the side stock. These usually just push into the channel stock. There will also be rolls of round flexible vinyl or some such that is pushed into the channel along with the screen with a special but inexpensive roller tool. Excess screen is trimmed of with a utility knife or razor blade. It's easy to do overall. Joe Southern Conn. Bureau
