window screen loose

Hi everybody, I'm not a big DIY-er, so I'm having some trouble finding the answer to the problem I have. It's a window screens question. Basically, the screens are completely loose in my home's window frames. In other words, I can just grab the screen, frame and all, and pull it easily out of the window from inside. Because the screen frames aren't tight flush against the surrounding window frames, they're letting in bugs and such. When a wind blows, the wind rattles the screen frame. A couple of the windows in the house have "screen clips." These are little semi-flexible plastic pieces that sort of wedge in between the window frame and the screen frame at an edge, and thus keeping the screen tightly wedged. I went looking for these, but can't find any. And of course, the manufacturer of my home's window isn't in business any more :( For now, I've folded up some paper and wedged it in between the other screens and window frames, but obviously this isn't a good solution. Does anyone a) know what I'm talking about, and b) hopefully have a solution? Thanks in advance! Dave K.

Dave, I would see who made your windows and call them regarding your problem. Hopefully they will have the answer for you. Usually the window manufactures name is somewhere on the window & hopefully the model of window you have. Hope this helps, Lisa

Dave, Sorry about that, I was probably reading your email with my 9 year old standing over my shoulder. All I've heard for the past few days is "I'm bored". Do you know how long they have been out of business? What was the name of the business? Many window manufactures have the same types of windows. You can call around to see if your window is the same as another window manufacture. Do you know where the contractor who build your house bought the windows? I can send you a list of some window manufactures if you would like me to. Hopefully they can help you or you could call some glass companies to ask them if they know of what you could do. I know of 2 large companies that sell supplies to glass companies that may have what you need but you would probably have to go through a glass company to get it since they don't sell to the public. Let me know if you need any names of places. Where are you located? I believe these 2 companies that sell supplies are up North but ship nation wide. Lisa

Dave, I search on the internet for INDAL CAL. IGMAC. All I could find was INDAL is a company who makes aluminum. IGMAC is Insulated Glass Manufactures Association of Canada. Here is their email address "igmac@..." Where did you find the name of this company? On the glass or the window? Often the glass has a different name on it than the window. Anyway you may want to send this place an email, I don't know if it will help. You may find someone at Home Depot to help you if they know anything about screens but I've had bad experience at Home Depot. Sometimes I know more than they do and that isn't good - I don't know a whole lot about tools and such. Trinity is right about their are a lot of places that make screens. They might be able to help you without making you a new screen. You might want to go by a glass company first to see if they can advise you on this. Not all glass companies will deal with screens but if you might someone nice enough to look into it for you. CR Lawrence is one of the companies that supply everything under the sun to glass companies and also places that make screens. They sell replacement parts, tools and so on. Good luck. Let us know what you find out. Lisa

We have a guy that does mobile screen repair. He is really nice, and comes to the house and does tham all right there. The reason i know this is the previous owners of my house took all but one of the screens with them, or they had been destroyed and we didn't notice the lack of screens on our walk through. Also, many windows come in standard sizes. I would take measurements and maybe even a picture of the window and try at the local DIY supercenter, home depot or lowes. My home is a ten yr old track home, so my windows are basic generic sized. Anyway, enjoy.. Sara
