Thanks to all for advice on shingles & other stuff
I truly appreciate all the advice everyone has given me about my shingles, hole in the siding and swing. I don't have any trees near my house, the ones I have in the yard aren't big since they were only planted a few years ago. The sun hits that side of the roof in the afternoon. I wish I could afford to put on a new roof but I can't right now. I noticed a place on the kitchen ceiling today that looks like a water stain. It's raining like crazy here. This house situation really upsets me. I guess that's life but I need a break! Trinity - your right without this group I'd be a lost sole. My ex knows how to repair about anything but you know that situation. Funny thing is when I was married it was like pulling my teeth out to get him to do things around the house. When I tried to fix things on my own I'd make it worse, wish I had known about this group back then. Now I have my little 9 year old son who tries his best to help me around the house although he is the cause a lot of my repairs, my 15 year old daughter is going on 25 so she doesn't help very much. Question for you guys who are married - Do you know how to operate the washing machine, dryer, dishwasher, stove or microwave? I had to teach my ex all these things when I moved out. My father only knows how to use the microwave and refuses to learn anything else - his favorite saying "that's woman's work". He is definetly living in an older generation than we are.
Hey Lisa, You are welcome! There is a country song that says someting about 'if there were more front porches there would be less strangers' or something like that. I grew up in a small town where everybody helped everybody, and I am still that way. Someone needed help or something fixed, all they had to do was ask. The barter system was the norm. I fixed Tom's house, Tom as a mechanic, fixed my truck, Mrs. Hall made great pies, Ed was an appliance repairmen, etc. It all worked out, and everybody was happy. Question for you guys who are married - Do you know how to operate In response to your question = I can operate a mean microwave, the dishwasher is easy, I am a pretty good cook, and as long as the detergent box has directions, I can run the washer. Tried a sewing machine once though to mend some paint tarps, almost sewed my thumb to the tarp. Like Dirty Harry said, "A good man knows his limitations." Michael
I can cook. I can clean. All those years in the Army showed me how to garden. I can run a sewing machine. -- --jmowreader
Trinity: I was an only child and spent my last 8 years at home on a farm. Consequently I was my mothers daughter and my fathers son. I learned to iron, bake, mend, clean, scrub, dust, dress chickens, or undress as you city types might conclude the process, can, garden, and all the rest. Once I got married I immediately pushed the erase button and my wife thinks I'm domestically challenged and that is the way I intend to keep it. Nuts, bolts, wires, boards and all those other guy things are more to my liking. Dale and Darn It Trinity, Keep Quiet!
Ok, I can cook ( the commercial range for the new kitchen was my add ), I do sew on occasion ( even making my wife clothes for gifts), I can Iron ( hate it, shirts go to the cleaners), I can do the laundry ( even learned how to sort it ), I can run a dishwasher as well a a dishrag, the military taught me how to wax and buff a floor. As for vacuuming I prefer an upright Kirby. Bill C.
Wel, let's see. 1) I can cook and in fact do most of the meal preparation. I prefer the gas range to a microwave, but I can use that as well. 2) At the moment we have a kitchen that is not terribly friendly so until remodel, dishes are done in the sink. I am considering purchasing a convertible dishwasher (portable until you make it permanent) as I'm sick to death of doing dishes by hand. 3) I have no problems doing laundry, however my wife is typically in charge of doing that. (I even got her takin' the garbage out to the curb most weeks! <Grin Now, I'll extend this challenge a bit by stating that I am also a stay-at-home dad. I have my own business so I can manage the day care a bit better from that angle. I have a 2 year old daughter and an 8 month old son -- so far, they're both surviving quite well, even growing (the boy is over 20 pounds already -- the porker!). In addition, I can do basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical and much more. I own this house (bought it before I even met my wife) and over the last 5 years have done quite a goodly bit of remodeling with much more to come. Of course, as soon as we have it where we like it we will move. :) So, in short, I do it all. :) James
