Sliding Glass Doors

I saw once on HGTV a way to clean up the grooves on a sliding glass door. However it has been quite awhile ago. I am now at the point I need to know how to do it really bad. Can anyone recommend a way to get this cleaned so I can get the door to open, and close without generating a hernia everytime?? Thanks in advance for any help

"You can clean the tracks with cleaner, then when they're dry, put some powdered graphite in the tracks." Liz, Sorry this is my first post I didn't realize I had set it as anonymous. Usually I just read the posts looking for information. A little background on the door. It is a door on the backside of the house where our dogs go in and out all the time. Plus we use it for access frequently to the backyard, after putting in a pool 3 years ago it has accumulated some dirt, and grime. Now the bottom is getting very hard to slide. What kind of cleaner do you use? is the cleaner, and powdered graphite something I can find at Lowe's? Thanks, Tim

What is powdered graphite and where do you get it? Diane (who is not the anonymous poster but who has a similar problem) Powdered graphite is a lubricant and can be found in auto part stores or hardware stores in a tube or small bottle. Just ask a salesperson for powdered graphite ...if they are worth their salt they will know what and where it is :o) Kathie

good point Dale, as usual ;o) I actually thought of the messiness, but didn't know what else to recommend. Liz

They're not balls, they're rollers. Trend-Lines makes them. Lowe's should have them; Home Depot does. The rollers grind away from all the crud that gets into the track. -- --jmowreader
