Hardwood refinish question
Has anyone heard of, or used "Rx for wood floors"? This is a chemical treatment instead of mechanically sanding. I am about to refinish all the floors in newly purchased house and I am trying to get information on options in the approach. Are new options worth looking into, or is the tried and true method the one to stay with? Gary
If carpet is removed that covers a very nice looking hardwood floor will the entire floor need to be refinished (btw--does this involve stripping the finish, fill carpet tack strip holes, sand and then stain and polyurethane) Long lost Valerie (no more rain in the kitchen)
I just had the same issue. If the floor is in good shape, let it be. The holes from the staples and tackless are hardly noticable and serve to add some character to the floor. If you decide to refinish, (and I almost hate to say this) hire someone to do it. I priced out the rental of the tools necessary and estimated the time that it would take and found that is was worth the money to have someone do it. More important than the above reasons, the floor sanders take a good amount of experience to operate properly. If you have never used one before it is very easy to trash a perfectly good hardwood floor in a no time at all.
Thanks alot for the information. In looking at the floor...it really looks nice compared to the carpet which is getting older the longer we live here...plus it goes into the dining room and when we use the dining room it would be nice not to have carpet...just seems cleaner. OK...so what about a heavy traffic area (garage to family room to entrance way--L shaped) which has a berber and is part of the family room floor space as well--that just looks bad now that it had been here over 7 years (mind you this is a slab portion of the house). I've thought about some sort of wood for the area of high traffic leaving the rest carpeted but there is also a back door. Any thoughts...
I cleaned mine with Murphy's Oil Soap and rinsed with water working in small areas at a time so I could towel dry the floor. Then waxed with a paste wax. Robert
