Eggshell vs. Semi Gloss

I'm almost to the wall painting stage....let me just say that painting the ceilings has skyrocketed to the top of my 'suck job' list!!! UGH! If I NEVER have to do it again it will be too soon. Anyway....I'm thinking I want 'eggshell' finish for the walls - but a friend had suggested semi gloss. Anyone have any feelings on either? Thanks! Wendy

LOL! I hear ya. When we bought our first house, the walls or ceilings hadn't been painted in YEARS, and we so grimy..UGH. Before we even moved in, we painted all the walls and ceilings in a 12 room house. I just painted the bathroom last week (a different color) and it definitely brought back memories. I like Eggshell, our walls are far from smooth and a semi-gloss will definitely show any imperfection. Semi-gloss is also too shiny for me. I use Semi-gloss on trim. However, as everyone else said "it's a matter of personal preference." If you can, get a quart of the color you want in both eggshell and semi-gloss and paint a peice of wall board for each. Stick 'em in the room, see what ya like :) Gina

This house hasn't been painted (or cleaned) in probably 20-25 years...the walls were FILTHY! It has taken two coats of primer to cover the black from the heat buildup. Therefore, after two coats of primer I have NO desire to buy a quart of paint and do a test patch. At this point whatever goes on the walls is staying on the walls!! I don't care if it looks hideous! hahhahaha! My mom and my aunt have been helping me a lot. They have now barred me from going to Home Depot ever again! Every time I go I come home with new pamphlets and ideas on the faux painting I want to do!! Anyone ever done 'ragging on'? I'm going to do a sponge paint in my office - but I like the ragging on technique too....just wondering how hard it is. Thanks! Wendy
