[DIY] Need help removing cat urine odor from a carpet

There are lots of pet odor eliminators on the market. You can get them at pet stores, Wal Mart and the bigger grocery stores. It has an enzyme in it that will neutralize the odor. They really work and I would use them before steam cleaning the carpet. Be gentle with YourSelf Sue

Well, you can run out and buy one of those spot cleaners, like a mini steam cleaner. My in-laws have one...not sure the price but they work well for small areas. If money is no object, then you could hire a housekeeper/house cleaner for one day with instructions on not only cleaning, but trying to get the stuff out. Cheaper options would be to get some carpet stain spray and spray and blot like your life depended on it, then get some pet odor powder that you vacuum up and then Febreze the heck out of it. ALso keep scented candles lit just in case. The vinegar will keep kitty from going back to the spot and repeating actions (unless we're talking hairball, then it doesn't matter about smell so much...just GROSSNESS) Kati In Iowa, petless for now
