[DIY] garage door opener

You should be able to push the pin back up into the carrier until it snaps into position (the pin is what your hubby pulled to release the door) then when the garage door arm comes in contact with the carrier it will catch onto it and start working again. At least that's how mine works. Mike

Thank you Mike. I got it hooked back but the motor runs and door doesn't move. I think I'll call someone but at least now I know what to tell them the problem is. Sunny

The carrier must not be engaged to the line. Sometimes you have to tug on the carrier to get it to snap into position. Should be a simple fix, unless the chain or worm drive itself is slipping at the motor. Mike

If I have to replace the opener what kind is best?

Nothing is moving at all but the motor is making it's noise. I just called a guy and he seemed to know right what part it needs and said it should be fixable. It's pretty old though so I'm guessing it will have to be replaced in the not too distant future. The chain is stretching. Sunny
