[DIY] farmers sell out? OT
My husband and I are in our late twenties and in prime farming country here in Small Town, Iowa. Most of our closest friends are farmers, not because it is profitable, but because it is their life. Because their fathers and grandfathers farmed that land. Also, if it were not for these farmers, my husband who is employed by John Deere (factory: making the farm machinery ...NOT at an implement selling it) along with thousands of others around the midwest would be out of a job if it was so common for farmers to "sell out" to the highest bidder. Anyone who comes around these here parts spewing that kind of language about farmers being sell outs is speaking fightin' words. Just my 2 cents. Ken, Your right about Victoria to San Antonio. But, it's nothing like So Cal. We still have sprawling independent ranches, and farms, in South Texas. The Powderhorn ranch, down by Port O'conner 50,000 acres. King Ranch almost 100,000 acres, and these are independent not corporate ranches. Rob
Hey, Howzabout changing the OT subject line when it verges off the original. I'm kind of embarrassed to see how McMansion became Farmers Sell Out to Jellyfish in Texas. Not that it isn't interesting to see stream of consciousness and all. Let's just let *potential* readers know if someone has taken the road less travelled. Sue in MD
