[DIY] Dark marks on ceiling
I'm about to paint my house and am wondering if I should paint the trim or the siding first. My instinct is to paint the siding and then the trim, but I think I've read that the trim should come first. Is that so and, if so, why would that be the better way to proceed? Thanks. Terry
I just finished painting the exterior of my house last week. All by myself--5'2" and a ladder. Based on my experience, I would do the siding first. Easier to clean up with trim. However, it might depend on the layout of your trim and siding. If you only have trim to paint at the upper reaches, then you might go ahead and get it out of the way. Since the other rule of thumb is go top to bottom and left to right if you are righthanded. Lowes and Home Depot have nice how-to brochures that might help you out. As do some of the paint websites--Miller Paints, American Traditions. Good luck!
If you paint the siding first,,you'll get a lot done in a hurry at the outset and everyone will be impressed. Then you can diddle around with the trim because its always slower and a lot of moving around etc. But your gonna feel better because you've already got 90% of the painting done already. The other way is to do the trim first and keep looking at an unpainted house. It takes the fun out of it.
