Diamond gun for glass?

My father in law once owned a small hand-held "staple gun" that shot out little diamond shaped metal pieces that he used to install panes of glass into cabinetry, window panes, etc. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? Are these still available? Does anyone have any other suggestions for installing glass into cabinetry? I don't like when people use caulk or some sort of adhesive - it looks pretty messy from the inside. Thanks! Shane

Dave covered it pretty well, I would only add that those tools are about $70 (because they're for artists LOL . . . if they were 'real' tools they'd be $20) They make glazier points and framing points that fit into them. The glaziers points are shorter than the framing points. You can get points that you push in by hand, make sure you get the ones with the little tabs, they are much easier to work with. Liz

Dale, between your getting the point driver for $2 and having built a deck and reglazed and painted all your windows, while I managed to get 2 windows down, taken apart and left to die on the deck . .. I'm beginning to hate you Liz

You're one window ahead of me. Mine is minus one pane of glass (broken during removal) and in need of a new coat of paint but it should be done before the snow flies. :-) Now I just need to get the other 10 done... Chris

personally, I would use clear silicone. that is what leaded glass (stained glass) artisans use to put them in doors, etc. Just put the glas in and run a tin bead of silicone around it. If it's a large pane, I would use either a wood strip or you can purchas little brackets made to hold glass in - they have them at Lowe's etc. Liz

LOL, I thought of that, but I am never able to bring myself to make anything permanent, I thought I might want to take the glass out someday, and it would be easier if there was only a bead holding it in . . . sheesh, this is why I never cut fabric, either (creative folding) My dad was the same way, we lived for years with 'temporary' things . . .
